By registering for a class at Markgraf Clayworks Studio and Class Space (MCW), I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the following policies and waivers:
REFUNDS: Full refund or credit will be issued for any class session cancelled by MCW. If a single class is cancelled for any reason (instructor absence, power outage, inclement weather, etc.) we will reschedule as soon as possible. We will work with students to make sure they receive all classes included in a session. Students will be notified of cancellations by EMAIL.
No refunds will be issued if a student cancels their registration within 7 days of the first day of a class session. If a student cancels their registration any time before 7 days from the start of class, they will receive a full refund minus a $25.00 processing fee. No tuition will be pro-rated due to dropping out or missing classes.
If MCW has to close due to regulations associated with COVID-19, classes will restart when we are allowed to reopen. We are unable to give refunds under these circumstances. We will give a pro-rated class credit to anyone who is not able to restart classes at the appointed time. Credit will be good for up to 6 months and can be applied toward the fee for any class listing.
If you are sick please stay home. We will work with you within reason to make sure you get the most out of your class experience.
MCW reserves the right to withdraw and revise classes, tuition and fee structures, substitute instructors or schedules and to amend policies as deemed necessary to provide for efficient operation of the organization.
MISSED CLASSES: A class which is canceled due to inclement weather, power outage, unforeseen circumstances or instructor absence will be rescheduled, Students will be notified by email regarding any cancellations. We do not offer makeups for classes missed by a student but will work closely with the student to make sure they are informed of what they missed in the class. We will do our best to provide missed instructions/demos that occurred in their absence.
ADULT CLASSES are for ages 16 and up unless otherwise noted.
STUDENTS: Please arrive to class on time. Please allow 20 minutes at the end of class for cleanup and sanitizing your work area, Return all items to their appropriate locations and leave the studio cleaner that when you arrived.
Please leave valuables at home. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Please silence your cell phones during class periods.
Please note the location of first aid kit and fire exits.
CHILDREN: Parents must fill out Emergency Contact forms for students. Forms must be submitted before a child can attend classes. All children under 16 must be accompanied/dropped off at our reception desk located in our studio on the third floor of 17 1/2 S. Park Place above the Newark Cultural Arts Center. It is not permitted to drop students off at the street entrance. The same applies for pickup times. Children will not be released to exit the studio unless accompanied by parent or listed contact. Students aged 16-18 must have written permission from parents to enter and leave studio independent of parent/approved contact. Please do not drop children off earlier than 10 minutes before the start of class. Please pick up promptly at the ending class time. We will do our best to have students finished with class work and ready to be picked up at the ending time of class.
Restrooms are located on the floor below the studio. Younger children will be escorted from class to the restroom. Parents will be given a form to fill out designating if their child is allowed to leave the studio to use the restroom without an escort.
ACCESSIBILITY: Due to layout of the building, we regret that our studio is NOT handicap accessible. We would love to work with you so if this inhibits you from coming to our studio, please contact us to see if we can bring a class to you or if portable projects are available to complete outside of the studio and then can be returned for firing in our kilns.
STUDIO USE: MCW is for educational and recreational use only. No production pottery is permitted.
VISITORS: No guests/visitors are allowed in the studio with students at this time. Students are not allowed to bring their children to class with them.
PHOTOGRAPHY: We reserve the right to photograph students and/or work for promotional use on our website or social media. You must notify us by email if you do not want your photo or your child's photo used for these purposes.
CLAY: All clay must be purchased through MCW. Clay charges include cost of studio glaze and firing. The studio reserves the right to limit how much clay can be purchased per class session. You are responsible for the proper storage of your clay. Label your bags and seal tightly. Do not leave your clay out. Store in your designated areas. Leftover clay must be removed at the end of the class session, but can be used for future class sessions. We will not replace dried out or lost clay. Storage is limited. Any clay left after a session has ended will be donated back to the studio.
SIGN/LABEL WORK: All work must be signed. Unidentified pieces will be held back from firing. In-process work must be clearly labeled with potter’s name. Please keep a record of your work with notes, drawings or photos. We are not responsible for lost work.
ABANDONED WORK: Any work (finished or unfinished) unclaimed in the studio after one month will become the property of MCW
DO NOT TOUCH: Only handle your own work to prevent accidental breakage. This includes in process, bisque or glazed ware. If someone else’s piece needs to be moved for any reason, ask instructor to move it.
KILNS: Kiln firing is for enrolled students only. No outside firing will be allowed. Only staff is allowed in the kiln room. Only staff is allowed to load and unload kilns. Finished work will be placed on designated shelves in the studio areas. Please pickup work as soon as possible once completed.
You will receive thorough instruction during class on drying and firing process of clay and what procedures to follow along the way.
Clay Projects Disclaimer: With clay there is always a chance of projects exploding in the kiln or breaking. We try our best to return your projects to you as you created them, however sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. We sincerely apologize if one of your pieces is damaged in the firing process.
SINKS: Absolutely no clay is to go down the sink drain. Instruction will be provided during class time as to the proper cleanup and disposal of clay/slip water
TOOLS: Students are required to have their own tools, buckets and towels/aprons (with the exception of children's classes and adult Intro to Pottery, and some workshops and special event classes as noted.) A basic tool kit will be available to purchase at the studio if desired. A one gallon sized bucket is a good size for throwing and hand building. Aprons are optional, but be aware that clothes will get messy.
ATTIRE: Close-toes shoes with rubber soles are required. No open-toed shoes, sandals, clogs, flip flops. Long hair should be pulled back for your own safety. No jewelry or clothing that hangs loose from the body. Logos, words and labels on all attire must be community-studio appropriate. Any items deemed offensive by instructors will need to be changed or turned inside out.
FINGERNAILS: Wheel students should keep nails trimmed short for your own safety.
STUDIO ETIQUETTE:

Treat the people, studio and equipment with care, respect and kindness.

Help each other out and be nice. Please do not offer criticism unless it is asked for.

This is a safe space for all users– no discriminatory conversations or actions are allowed.

Please mind your language. Keep your language and behavior appropriate at all times.

Please silence your cell phones.

Food and drink are discouraged at this time unless otherwise noted in designated areas. Water bottles are the exception. Wash hands thoroughly before eating and drinking.

Please do not use clay or tools located on the shelves around the studio. It will be clear which items are being provided for your use during class and which things you should bring with you. .

If you are injured, please inform your instructor immediately.

Please report any accidents or broken items to the instructor immediately

No clay hands in the rest room. Rinse hands in your bucket first, then wash in the studio sink before exiting to use the rest room.

No smoking or vaping on the premises.

No firearms on the premises.

Alcohol is allowed only at designated special events and by those of legal age.

No one is allowed in the kiln room unless accompanied by the instructor.
Non-adherence to studio policies and procedures may result in suspension of studio use without reimbursement of fees.

Liability and Photo Release:
By virtue of my registration for class(es), I release Markgraf Clayworks, Studio and Class Space, from any bodily injury sustained, or loss or damage of any personal article, while on the premises or through my participation in any activity sponsored by Markgraf Clayworks. If medical attention is required due to accident or illness, Markgraf Clayworks will be permitted to seek such medical services on my behalf as it deems necessary and appropriate through EMS/911 and/or local hospitals. Unless I notify Markgraf Clayworks in writing, by virtue of my registration for class(es), I agree to allow Markgraf Clayworks to take photographs in which I appear or my artworks appear, to be used only for public relations, promotion or archival purposes.
COVID-19 Agreements:
By registering for a class, you agree to the following:

You have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 or, if diagnosed you have been cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities.

You are not experiencing any symptoms of illness such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell and if you experience such symptoms during the duration of a class session you will not attend.

You have reviewed the measures undertaken by MCW to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and you are able to and will comply with all set procedures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 while attending your class. MCW reserves the right to ask anyone who is not complying with set procedures to immediately leave the program with no refund.
COVID-19 Release of Liability:
MCW has put in place many preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as recommended by the CDC and the Licking County Department of Health. It is, however, impossible to eliminate all risk of infection or to control the behavior of all students and visitors. Therefore, there is still a risk that you could become exposed to and/or infected by COVID-19 while at MCW Studio and Class Space.
By registering for a class, you agree that you are attending your class voluntarily and that you are assuming all risk of contracting COVID-19. You understand that you could become exposed to and/or infected by COVID-19 from the actions, omissions or negligence of yourself or others, including but not limited to MCW staff, instructors, or other students. You hereby release and agree to hold MCW and its instructors harmless from, and waive on behalf of yourself, your heirs and any personal representative, any and all causes of action, claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, and compensation for damage or loss to your self and/or property relating to any such actions, omissions or negligence. You understand that this release discharges MCW from any liability or claim that you, your heirs, or any personal representative may have against any such parties with respect to any bodily injury, illness, death , medical treatment or property damage related to COVID-19 that may arise from, or connect to, your participation in a program at Markgraf Clayworks studio and class space.
