Service Description

Total of 4 classes- 8/16, 8/23, 8/30, skip 9/6 for drying and firing, final glaze class on 9/13. There is no scheduled makeup class for this session. If you must miss a class, you will be able to take advantage of open studio times to continue progress on your pieces. This specialized handbuilding class will teach and utilize the skills necessary to create a tea set. The set can be composed of the following elements- tea pot, tea cups, creamer, sugar bowl, serving tray, but ultimately each student will design their own set and decide what to include. Students will have to plan accordingly to construct all the pieces in three working class periods. You will be notified of open studio dates during your session that will provide extra independent work time. The final class will be glazing. Students should come to the first class with drawings of original designs. (photos of tea sets are fine for inspiration but not to directly copy). A rough idea is okay to start. Use your imagination to introduce fantasy, magical, trompe l'oeil (realism that tricks the eye), satire, nature, etc. Tom will consult with you to lay a plan out for your concept. Clay will be provided, however, each student is responsible to provide their own basic tool set. Each set should consist of a pin tool, soft rib, wood knife, scoring tool, small sponge, and misc forming tools. While at the studio students will have access to other specialty tools and forms. Please read our studio policies and procedures. By registering for a class you acknowledge that you have read and agree to our procedures/policies. Unfortunately, we are located on the third floor without an elevator so we are not handicap accessible. Please contact us for opportunities to bring a class to you.

Cancellation Policy

Full refund or credit will be issued for any class cancelled by Markgraf Clayworks. If a student must cancel, they may do so for a full refund minus a $25 processing fee up to 7 days before the start date of the class. If a student cancels within 7 days of the start date of the class, they will receive a credit to be applied toward another class. Credit must be used within 6 months. Student will be responsible for any part of class fee greater than their credit due. No refunds will be given on or after the first day of class.
