RAKU! This alternative firing class is designed to expose each student to a range of firing techniques related to the ancient Japanese art of Raku. Students will make 5 pots total, including one sagar fired pot, one naked raku pot, and one glazed traditional raku pot with the last two pots being their choice of techniques. These pots will not be food safe! Students may choose between hand built or wheel thrown vessels/sculptures. Each piece will be no larger than 8x8 inches. This class is 6 sessions -4 producing the vessels/sculptures, 1glazing, and 1firing... with a rain date scheduled if necessary. You must be able to come to the firing (or firing rain date so make sure you have both dates available) as it is a group effort. You are required to remain for the entire firing. The dates are as follows: Wed April 16 6-9 Studio Make Wed April 23 6-9 Studio Make Wed April 30 6-9 Studio Make Wed May 7 Studio Make Wed May 21 Studio Glaze Saturday May 31 Firing (off site) 12pm-finished Sunday June 1 Firing Rain Date Experience throwing on the wheel is helpful. Students must have their own tools. Tools are available for purchase at the studio. All absence and studio policies apply. Please read policies before committing.
